Immerse yourself in the food culture of Italy, and discover the age-old ways of cooking with a private lesson in an Italian family kitchen or your own apartment or villa. Add to your knowledge and enjoyment by visiting the local farms and workshops where the produce you use in your lesson is grown and made.

Cooking with babbo

Babbo is the affectionate Tuscan word for ‘father’. We’ll go to a tiny hamlet where the Paganelli family has converted a former chapel into a mountain eyrie. There’s no menu. We go with the flow and help Marzio cook a simple meal. He might ask if you’ve ever picked a tomato, and if the answer is no, out you go to the veg patch. Have you ever got water from a spring. No? Now’s your chance. This is also a lesson in Italian family dynamics. Who rules the roost in the kitchen? Husband or wife? Languages: English, Portuguese, Italian.

Fees include cooking lesson, ingredients, wine and apron.

1 person: €180 euros

2 people: €130 euros each

3–6 people: €115 euros each (children 6–10: €80 each)

Lessons in an Italian family kitchen

In Gabriella's kitchen you are immersed in the food culture of Italy. For Gabriella cooking is an addiction, and using the best ingredients an obsession: just-landed fish from the molo in Viareggio, wild greens from her olive grove, eggs from her own hens — nothing is too much trouble when it comes to finding first-rate produce. You learn age-old ways of preparing simple family meals. After the lesson, you sit down to a meal with Gabriella and her husband, who tends the vegetable garden, chooses the wine and generally encourages Gabriella in her addiction. Languages: English or Italian.

Fees include cooking lesson, ingredients, wine, apron and recipe booklet.

1 person: €180 euros

2 people: €130 euros each

3–6 people: €115 euros each (children 6–10: €80 each)

(Add €20 euros per person for fish and wild game menus)
